Why a Built-In Dialer Can Hurt Your Real Estate Investing Business

A built-in dialer can hurt a real estate investing business when it locks your phones, your CRM and your data to one vendor’s choices. You can’t swap the dialer when a better one comes out, a CRM outage takes your calling down with it, and leaving means replacing everything at once. A flexible CRM lets you run calling and SMS inside your system through the phone partner you choose, and change that partner when your business changes.

I get the appeal. One login, one bill, calling included. All-in-one investor CRMs like REsimpli, FreedomSoft and BatchLeads have built real businesses on that promise, and for a solo investor it can be the right call. But we started Left Main REI on a different belief: your CRM should be outgrow proof. The tools you use in year one should never be the reason you can’t grow in year five.

What “built-in dialer” really means

When a CRM includes its own dialer, the vendor picks your calling technology for you. Your phone lines, your call flows, your texting, your call recordings and your CRM all come from the same company, on the same platform, on the same release schedule.

Plenty of investor CRMs work this way. Here’s what each one says about calling on its own pricing page (as of Oct 21, 2026):

CRMWhat’s built inHow calling is billed
REsimpliTriple-line dialer on every plan“Unlimited standard calling minutes & SMS under our fair use policy”; AI calling billed per use (pricing)
FreedomSoft“Built-In Phone” and Click-2-Call Dialer Campaigns on every plan; 1, 3 or 6 numbers by planVoice 3 cents a minute, texts 4 cents each, call recording and AI voice billed separately (pricing)
BatchLeadsNative click-to-dial from property profiles and the mobile appDialer AI add-on, $89 a month on every plan, with an in-app softphone and 3 numbers (pricing)
GoHighLevelInbound and outbound calling and SMS in the core features“Usage based charges apply” for phone numbers and SMS (pricing)
Left Main REICalling and SMS inside the CRM through the phone partner you choose; history stays on the lead recordYour phone provider bills usage, on the plan you pick

That’s a bundle. Bundles are great right up until one piece of the bundle stops fitting your business.

5 ways a built-in dialer can hold your business back

#1: You can’t swap the part that stops working for you

Your dialer needs change as you grow. A two-person team cold calling off a list needs something different from a 20-person shop with an inbound lead manager, round robins, a simultaneous ring group for the Money Phone, and marketing that needs call tracking to know which campaign specifically made the phone ring.

With a built-in dialer, you get the dialer the CRM comes with. If it doesn’t do what your team needs, your options are to live with it or leave the whole CRM.

#2: The vendor picks your tools in a market that’s moving faster than ever

We are in a massive wave of new products. AI calling, AI agents that answer and qualify leads, conversation intelligence, new texting platforms, new data providers. Something launches every month that could change how your team works.

When your CRM chooses your phone system, you wait for that vendor to build or bundle the next thing. When your CRM is open and flexible, you can plug in the tool that works best for you the week it comes out, test it with one team, and keep it or drop it.

Your competitive edge shouldn’t depend on somebody else’s roadmap.

#3: When the CRM goes down, your phones go down with it

Every software company has maintenance windows and upgrades. The question is what else goes dark when they happen.

Here’s a real example. When REsimpli moved accounts to its rebuilt 6.0 platform on Saturday, September 12, 2026, its help center said the system would be down entirely from 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM Eastern, with calls and texts unavailable during that window (REsimpli help center). That’s the trade-off of a bundle: the upgrade to your CRM is also an upgrade to your phones.

When your phone partner is separate, a CRM maintenance window doesn’t stop your team from answering the phone. Seller leads don’t wait. Pick that Money Phone up!

#4: Bundled calling still has a meter somewhere

Read the fine print. “Unlimited” standard calling and SMS plans run under a fair use policy, and AI calling is billed per use. FreedomSoft bills voice by the minute and texts by the message. GoHighLevel says usage-based charges apply for phone numbers and SMS. That’s normal, and it’s fair. Just know that “included” rarely means free, and the newest tools, like AI calling, are where the meter comes back.

With your own phone partner, you choose the plan, the provider and the pricing model that fits how your team actually calls.

#5: Leaving gets harder every month you stay

When the dialer, the numbers, the call history and the CRM all live with one vendor, switching any one of them means switching all of them. So teams don’t switch. They stay on a setup that stopped fitting a year ago because the move feels too big.

That’s what I mean by being boxed in. Not a bad tool. A tool you can’t get out of.

In Left Main, your call and text history lives inside your CRM, not inside your phone provider. You own it. Switch providers and every call, text and note stays on the lead record right where your team expects it.

Every call and text lands on the lead record's activity timeline, no matter which phone provider made it. Change providers and the history stays put.

Outgrow proof: why we built Left Main this way

When we started Left Main REI, one of our founding principles was simple: make it outgrow proof. I was an operator first. I watched our own real estate business outgrow its tools, and every switch cost us time and momentum. I didn’t want to build another system that teams would have to leave once they got good.

So Left Main is built natively on Salesforce, one of the most customizable CRM platforms in the world, and it’s designed to work with the tools you choose instead of choosing them for you.

  • Calling and SMS inside the CRM, through the phone partner you choose. Connect smrtPhone, RingCentral, Dialpad, CallRail and more, or your own phone system. Left Main’s Cadence Libraries are flexible to work with all of them. Your chosen provider bills usage or seats depending on the plan you pick.
  • Switch when it makes sense. You can change phone providers or e-signature providers anytime as you see fit, without rebuilding your CRM. Your call and text history stays inside Left Main on every lead, opportunity, and contact record, so it’s a seamless switch and you stay in full control.
  • Plug in what’s next. New AI tools, data providers and integrations can connect as they come to market, so you can adopt what serves your business instead of waiting on a vendor.
  • Your AI, on your data. The Left Main connector for Claude, included in every plan, lets you ask plain-English questions about your leads, deals and dashboards (see Left Main + Claude). This allows for the ultimate flexibility. If you aren’t positioning your tools to be compatible with the new Ai way of life, you will fall tragically behind.
  • The sky is the limit on customization. Fields, stages, automations and dashboards can change as your business evolves or initiatives change. Our professional services team can handle any and all customizations you’d like, you can bring your own admin later, or you can even vibe-code directly on platform to your heart’s content.

A system that chooses for you is a ceiling. A system you can change is a foundation.

When a built-in dialer is the right call

A built-in dialer isn’t wrong for everyone.

  • You’re a solo investor or a very small team and you don’t want to make decisions.
  • You want one bill from one vendor.
  • Your business process isn’t likely to change much.
  • You don’t want to manage a phone provider relationship at all.

If that’s you, an all-in-one like REsimpli or FreedomSoft is hard to beat on simplicity. If you’re growing and building a team with acquisitions, dispositions and leadership roles who need to see what’s working, the flexibility matters more every quarter. Compare them side by side in Left Main vs. REsimpli.

5 questions to ask any CRM about calling before you sign

  1. Can I use the phone provider I already have, or do I have to use yours?
  2. If I want to change dialers next year, what do I have to rebuild?
  3. When the CRM has maintenance or a major upgrade, can my team still make and take calls?
  4. What does “unlimited” exclude, and how are AI calling and other new tools billed?
  5. Where does my call and text history live, and do I keep it if I change providers?

Don’t know the answer to one of these? Ask before you sign, not after you’ve loaded 50,000 leads.

FAQ

Does Left Main have a built-in dialer?

No, and that’s on purpose. Calling and SMS run inside Left Main through the phone partner you choose (smrtPhone, RingCentral, Dialpad, CallRail and more) or your own phone system. You don’t need a separate app to work your leads, and you can change providers anytime.

Which real estate investor CRMs have a built-in dialer?

Several all-in-one investor CRMs bundle calling. REsimpli includes a triple-line dialer on every plan, FreedomSoft includes a built-in phone and Click-2-Call dialer campaigns, BatchLeads offers native click-to-dial and a Dialer AI add-on, and GoHighLevel includes calling and SMS with usage-based charges (each vendor’s pricing page, as of Oct 21, 2026).

Is a built-in dialer cheaper?

Sometimes. Bundled calling can cost less up front, especially for a solo investor. Compare the full picture: the cost of being unable to switch tools, of downtime that takes your phones with it, and of a migration you keep putting off.

Can I switch phone providers in Left Main without changing CRMs?

Yes. You can change phone providers or e-signature providers as you see fit. All of your call and text history stays inside Left Main on each record, and your CRM, workflows and dashboards stay in place. It’s a seamless switch, and you’re in full control.

What does “outgrow proof” mean?

It means the system grows with your business instead of capping it. Left Main is built on Salesforce, customizable as your process changes, and open to the tools you choose, so you don’t have to switch CRMs when your team, your strategy or the market changes.
